Ellipsis
Jonty Harrison
Programme notes
Composed for dance, with choreography by Heather Rutland, the Atle refers to Derrida’s use of the term ellipsis to indicate more than a simple omission, but a deferral of meaning. For Derrida, it is the space between presence and absence, simultaneously both ‘minus one’ and ‘more than one’, where meaning is not fixed but always in process.
