Le parti flou des sons
Marie-Jeanne Wyckmans
Programme notes
A tribute to poet Francis Ponge (1899-1988) and the gorgeous poems found in his collection Le parti pris des choses (1942) (“Taking the Side of Things” in the best-known English translation, 1972).
My title is inspired by that book (in English it means something like “Taking the Side of Sounds”), although the piece is the obverse of it. The music is organically built, one event triggering another event, thus producing appearance / disappearance phenomena. What we have here is a dive into bleak magma out of which rise unclear, ill-defined screams and calls. Wave by wave, sonic phenomena rise from it and try to unfurl. This flux/reflux-like dive into indetermination triggers feelings akin to the world of dreams… or nightmares
