From the Unseen World
Barry Truax
Programme notes
From the Unseen World refers to a phrase Alan Turing (1912-1954) used to describe the spiritual dimension and the possible communication with his brilliant boyhood friend Christopher Morcom who died young. The piano arpeggio associated with Christopher in the composer’s Turing tribute Enigma is processed into an ethereal swirl of harmonics within which the live piano is entwined. The pitches that are not part of the arpeggio are heard in a bell-like chord symbolizing the real world.
