Hastening Toward the Half Moon strings together a series of vignettes on life’s eternal mysteries

Hastening Toward the Half Moon was realized in 2004 at the studios of New Adventures in Sound Art in Toronto, Canada and at the composer’s studio in Bowling Green (Ohio, USA), and premiered on August 8, 2004 during the Octophonic Concert of the Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art at St Andrew-by-the-Lake Church on Toronto Island (Canada). Recordings were made at the Bowling Green State University Electroacoustic Studios, engineered by Mark Bunce. The piece was commissioned by New Adventures in Sound Art. Thanks to Darren Copeland for spatialization assistance and to Douglass Bielmeier, Nicole Carroll, Gregory Cornelius, Matthew McCabe, Joshua Plocher, Bryan Stanbridge, and Paul Thomas who contributed the piece’s source material. Hastening Toward the Half Moon was awarded a Selection at the 5th Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Musicale Elettronica Pierre Schaeffer (Pescara, Italy, 2005).
