The biblical scriptures from the Old Testament about the trumpets of Jericho (Book of Joshua, 6) evoke the sonic power of the trumpet and the violence of rivalry in human relationships. Recent political events can shed circumstantial light on this text. These events inspired my choice of materials, but one should not interpret this work as a justification of violence or the expression of political beliefs.

À l’horizon du silence [On the Horizon of Silence] was realized in 2001-02 at the studio of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and premiered in April 2002 at the Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal in Montréal. Thanks to Bénédicte Décary, recorded voice. À l’horizon du silence was awarded the 1st prize at the Hugh Le Caine Award of the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers (Canada, 2003).
